Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin Sports Science Center, which opened in July of 2017, serves as the new downtown training and practice home for the Milwaukee Bucks. This 77,500 square foot facility holds all of the necessary accommodations to comfortably house an NBA team with ample workout spaces, rehabilitation areas, leisure spaces and collaborative office environments. Populous included state-of-the-art technologies that make the Sports Science Center a top-tier training facility in the NBA, giving the Bucks a distinct advantage when it comes to on-court development and player recruitment.
Top of the line player amenities can be found throughout the Sports Science Center and make the facility a second home to the Bucks players. The player lounge is equipped with spaces for dining and relaxing, in addition to televisions set up for entertainment. The lounge houses a kitchen with the most up-to-date equipment for the team’s personal chef and dietician. The overall design incorporated taller countertops, shower heads, doorways and higher seating to comfortably suit an NBA player’s physique. The players are also privy to a spacious, team-oriented locker room, an in-house barber and indoor underground parking.
Upper level office space houses the team’s General Manager and other staff in an open, collaborative environment. A large conference space overlooks the practice court to serve as the team’s “war room” during the NBA draft. The office space also includes an outdoor terrace with a fire pit, seating and outdoor TV, in addition to breathtaking views overlooking the new Bucks arena site and the downtown Milwaukee Skyline.
The Bucks have the NBA’s top fitness offerings at the Sports Science Center, including separate areas for weight lifting, cardio and rehabilitation. A large strength-training room is housed right next to the practice courts with a separate cardio deck overlooking the weightlifting area. Three rehabilitation pools located in the hydrotherapy room provide a unique, dynamic range of uses to rehab and rejuvenate the athletes to their maximum potential.
Throughout the Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin Sports Science Center, Populous provided expertise while focusing on innovative design solutions to create a state-of-the-art facility. The integration of the newest technologies and equipment, best-in-class amenities and thoughtful approach to design has created a beloved new home for the Milwaukee Bucks to work and play.
